The Zone of Interest is a 2023 historical drama film written and directed by Jonathan Glazer, based on the 2014 novel by Martin Amis.
The film delves into the lives of the Hoss family, led by patriarch Rudolf Hoss — a distinguished SS officer and commander of Auschwitz.
Despite what horrors were occurring within Auschwitz camp walls, the family live a seemingly normal existence by enjoying picnics by the river and hosting parties with fellow Nazis; yet, in stark contrast to this blissful existence was genocide taking place nearby.
The Zone of Interest, Oscar winner for best international film, offers an engaging and thought-provoking cinematic experience that explores the depths of human nature, complicity in evil acts, and their moral consequences.
