REGULAR SEMINAR IN BIODIVERSITY AND EVOLUTION
Operations Research (OR) applies mathematical models, analytical methods, and computational techniques to optimize decision-making in complex systems across various fields. Optimization, a core aspect of OR, focuses on finding the best possible solutions to problems by maximizing or minimizing objectives under given constraints. In conservation planning, optimization helps decision-makers evaluate different strategies, allocate limited resources efficiently, and balance competing priorities. Multi-objective optimization, an interdisciplinary field, addresses decision-making challenges involving conflicting objectives, enabling conservation planners to prioritize actions effectively while considering multiple trade-offs. In this seminar, we will explore OR, modeling, optimization, and multi-objective optimization, along with their applications in decision-making, with a particular focus on conservation planning.
Aboozar is a researcher at Associação BIOPOLIS - CIBIO. His academic background spans multiple disciplines, with a focus on operations research, computational optimization, and algorithm design. He also has experience in data science and machine learning, along with analytical skills. Currently, he is working in the area of conservation biology, developing computational tools to support decision-making in conservation planning within multi-objective optimization frameworks. Looking forward, his focus remains on modeling, designing, and advancing efficient optimization algorithms through computational tools and methodologies to address real-world problems.
